Despite the rainy/cold weather, we had a great first week in Gulfport…

Obelix and Bob were clean in the Open Welcome on Friday in very heavy rain and posted a clean 1st round in the Nutrena Grand Prix on Sunday. Obie definitely likes the big, beautiful field here at Gulfport. They finished 5th in both classes!

Cohiba and Michael DeMatteo had a superb start to their show season with a 2nd in the low Adult jumpers, a 3rd in the high Adult jumpers, and a 5th in the NAL/WIHS Adult classic. This team is really shaping up to be super consistent and they are great fun to watch. Cohiba and Bob also finished 1st in the 1.10M on day 1 and 3rd in the 1.15M.

Casanova/Amadeo continued his consistent performances with both Bob and Michael in the stirrups. Michael made his Amateur Owner debut on Cas and posted solid performances with nice ribbons in a tough group of horses/riders. Not too shabby for a catch ride!!

Giselle, Delaney Torti’s beautiful new mare, is coming along nicely. In her 1st show with us (and her 3rd show ever) she received nice prizes in the Pre Green Hunter division and improved with each round. She also won a non-TB hunter round and received a blue in one of the Open Prep classes. We’re looking forward to seeing Delaney on her this week!!

Esso and Bob had a light week but were reserve champions in the 2’6″ Special Hunters. It’s hard not to like this horse’s lovely demeanor in the ring. What a nice addition to the DDM group! Diane DeMatteo will make her debut on Esso this week and we can’t wait to watch this new pair in the ring.

Quetzal de Razel, owned by Whitney Lind, had a great start to the season as well posting multiple clear rounds in the 1.10M jumpers. Although not trying to be super fast in the jump offs, Bob and Q finished 8th in one of their classes. We’re looking forward to next week with this wonderful horse.

Crown Prince, who just turned 5 years old, made his 1st show ring appearance and received nice ribbons in the Baby Green Hunters. This is going to be one to watch in the coming months! He has an impressive ring presence and jumped around like an old pro despite his lack of show ring miles.

Stay tuned for next week. The weather is set to improve and Diane and Delaney will be with us to start their show seasons. It’s sure to be a fabulous, fun filled week!
